About Gheorghe Ignat
Gheorghe Ignat was the 10-time national heavyweight champion for Romania in Greco-Roman wrestling and other combat sports. Today, he leads Fight For Freedom International, a humanitarian organization that serves marginalized and at-risk people in Romania and Ukraine.
World Veterans Wrestling Championships
Gheorghe will be representing Romania in the heavyweight division of The World Veterans Wrestling Championships, held in Tatabania, Hungary on October 7-12, 2025. He will be facing other world-class veteran wrestlers (ex-professional athletes over the age of 35) from tens of countries from around the world.
To qualify on the day of competition, Gheorghe must reach a weight goal of 130 kilos. This means dropping 20 kilos since he began training in May for the competition. Check back here weekly for weigh-in updates!
